If you have used a computer in the last decade, you have probably noticed that most of today’s programs are based on Windows software. For most of us this is a good thing. Windows is considerably easier to use than the earlier DOS platform. It is based on easy to select windows of information, rather than complicated codes and commands.

Windows is made for the everyday user, but there are still some tricks common to all windows applications that can make your experience even better. Unknown to many, but universal in all windows based software, shortcut keys can save you lots of time. Although Windows is designed so that the user does not have to memorize commands, there are a few worth committing to memory.

The F keys located at the top of the keyboard use to be the basic commands for DOS based programs. They are whats known as function keys. Many of their functionality has been replaced by other shortcuts in Windows, but some are still applicable. A couple of function keys that are still commonly used are F5 to refresh a page and F1 to launch the help menu.

The CTRL keys are often forgotten about keys that have lots of usefulness. Abbreviated for the word ‘control’, these keys work with other keys to launch popular functions. CTRL key functions are straightforward and easy to use. Fore example, you can save a lot of clicks by using CTRL+C to copy an item to the clipboard, and then CTRL+V to paste it somewhere else.

The Alt keys are similar to the CTRL keys in that they are combined with other keys to bring about an action. They are frequently combined with non letters and are particularly useful in windows. It is easy to switch between windows by clicking Alt and then Tab immediately after it. There is even a powerful combination of CTRL+Alt+Delete to open the task manager and stop programs that have become unresponsive.

In addition to these keys that have always been on the keyboard, Windows added its own key to the shortcuts. The Windows key is a useful key that like the function key works alone, or like the CTRL and Alt keys can be partnered with other keys. Pressing the Windows key will launch the Start menu, while simple combinations such as Windows+D will show the desktop.

Windows by design is already easy to use. When Shortcut keys are added to it, its also a lot quicker. Just like Windows, the shortcuts are simple to learn and memorize. Learning a few of them will help you get the most out of your windows software.

In my opinion Windows XP software is still the best available. It’s true that I have not yet tried Windows 7 but, of the others, XP seems to be the best on the market. If you are looking to buy an operating system and don’t want to spend a lot of money then XP will probably be your best choice.

Vista has come down a lot in price but this was a disappointment to me from the beginning. Any new features or improvements were eclipsed by the lag it caused to most computer systems. That fact alone was enough to turn off most buyers. Granted with increased memory it actually ran fairly well but most systems with that much memory still sold for quiet a bit of money when Vista hit the market.

Linux is fairly cheap and some people really like it. I am not one of them. I have a difficult time learning a new format and frankly I don’t have time to take to learn to use it properly. This is an operating system geared towards programmers and techs. Yes, it is cheap but this is not a system I would want to have to use on a daily basis though I am sure it does wonderfully for those who do use it.

Windows 7 is of course the newest software available on the market. This may soon replace XP and Vista both and Linux may be almost completely forgotten. There will of course be a few glitches; how could there not be? Most of these will be fixable with out much problem and most users may never even know they existed. Probably the biggest problem with Windows 7 is the price. This operating system is still a bit pricy for those looking for a replacement for what ever reason.

Windows XP software was the answer to prayers for those who found previous versions lacking. This operating system is what we have come to know and feel comfortable using on our computers. Though there have been 2 new systems put on the market since XP was launched I think you will still be able to find this program on computers for a while to come.

The biggest problem with Windows XP software may very well be finding a replacement copy if you need one. This is tried and true and most will opt to stay with what they know for now. The prices may go up some as copies become harder to find and more people hold on to the copies they do have.

I intend to stay with XP a while longer, at least until the verdict is in on Windows 7. Maybe you just don’t like change or maybe you simply don’t have a lot of free time to deal with a new product. What ever your reasons are XP is still out there if you look around.

The most popular and widely used operating system on the planet, Microsoft Windows, has thousands of compatible software available. These are both third party, and software made by Microsoft. Some are free and others are for purchase. Programs for Windows vary and range from all different versions, and devices compatible. Windows software diverges for multiple purposes. This includes office applications, games, and advanced entertainment programs.

Microsoft Windows, as the operating system of most people around the world, also serves as a basis for software creation and development. There are several types of software that can be possibly made. The first is shareware, which requires purchase. Shareware is usually the most advanced and professional software in their category because it is developed by major businesses.

Freeware, a second option to those who don’t wish to spend money on software. Some classic examples of freeware are audio editors and media players. Programs like Audacity and VLC Media Player are just a few, and only in the entertainment line of freeware. The Internet is flooded with viable free software for anyone to use.

Malware is theoretically software but does not function at all like the others and not at all as desirably. Malware is intended to restrict, damage, or erase access, the condition, and files on a computer. A very common type of malware is the Trojan Horse, a program that is developed to install itself and allow remote access to your computer. This can result in theft of personal files and information. Other malware masks itself as a cause with good intentions so beware of shady distributors

Because Microsoft has many versions of their operating system programs differ depending on their intended system. Getting a computer with the latest version of Windows is the best option. In this age, that would mean Windows 7. The latest software may not function on an old Windows system. Contrarily backwards compatibility is a standards when upgrading Windows.

Windows Mobile, Microsoft’s pocket PC and smart phone operating system also supports software other than that packaged with it. To do this, or create programs for Windows in general, you must use Microsoft Visual Studio. This program creates others for the Windows operating system. But packaged with Windows Mobile are mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, a few of the most useful software for the system.

Microsoft Windows has a surplus of software. It can be created, downloaded, or ripped form a CD. Applications for the office and playable media are that of greatest use casually, but there are hundreds of categories for any type of profession and enjoyment. There is shareware, freeware, and malware, the latter of which should be completely avoided. Windows is the most used operating system worldwide, thus having the most and best software obtainable.
